I've started falling off in my regular blog-reading, which is how I somehow completely missed this post at Making Light (and the post it links to at Talking Points Memo). It's a great little piece of writing. But its subject— an obituary in Florida's St. Petersburg Times for a man named Neil Alan Smith— is not just great writing, but one of the most moving things I've read in a while.

This was drawn from a photograph of Smith in The Atlantic which also mentioned the story.
